“Excellent course. It helped me excel with my upper management, combining technology with my company’s business strategies. The best part of the training was the one on one. I worked with one instructor for the entire year. I gained the confidence to ask questions I would have never done in a regular classroom.”

I understood everything in school and was ready to enter the field after graduating. Once in the field, I quickly realized that while I knew how to load applications, I didn’t know when or why to use them. Businesses didn’t care that I learned how to build Windows DNS; they needed me to know when they needed it and why it was a better choice than other options.

After a few months, my former instructor, Professor Carney, approached me. He was considering starting a Windows server training course and wanted my feedback. Based on his college course, I told him he didn’t teach me that fundamental piece of the puzzle: when to actually use applications in the real world and how to troubleshoot. I told him the training should cover not just Windows Server but also critical thinking for business and troubleshooting. Combining these three components, students will have all the knowledge they need to build, maintain, and utilize Windows applications in the business world.

My belief in the missing two components, critical thinking, and troubleshooting, led me to work with Professor Carney on developing the Lab manuals. While working on the manuals, I became Professor Carney’s assistant professor. It was then that I saw the general degradation of college courses and the general grading of students. It’s my firm belief that what is needed is a new training method, one that teaches you everything you need to be successful in the IT field and doesn’t just give you a diploma.
